Chatham can avoid relegation from the Ryman League this weekend.

Kevin Watson’s men travel to fourth-placed Brentwood on Saturday knowing victory will see them secure safety in Division 1 North.

With leaders Needham Market visiting Chatham on the final day of the season, the trip to Brentwood represents their best chance of getting the three points they need to stay up without relying on other sides.

Brentwood lost 3-1 to strugglers Barkingside on Tuesday night, a game that Watson watched from the stands.

He said: “It was certainly a result that we didn’t want and they (Barkingside) came from behind to do it.

“It just goes to show anything can happen when teams are playing for their survival.

“The defeat also means Brentwood will want to beat us to keep their play-off hopes alive – it’s going to be a huge game for both of us.

“Of course we’d like a few other results to go our way but we can’t rely on it. We’ve got to get out there and give it our all."
