Chatham boss Kevin Watson will be hoping for more of the same from his team when they take on Romford this weekend.

But he could do without the pre-match problems that proceeded his team’s impressive 3-1 win at Brentwood on Tuesday night.

The game in Essex only just got the go-ahead from the referee to take place because of a waterlogged pitch. And an accident on the A2 led to three of his players turning up as the game kicked off after they were delayed in the subsequent traffic jam.

Watson said: "The game almost didn’t get going as when we got there, the referee had called it off. After a chat with myself and the opposition manager, he decided to let it go ahead.

“It was slippery out there but it wasn’t dangerous and irrespective of the score, it was the right decision.

Chatham host Romford on Saturday, another side who like themselves and Brentwood, are at the wrong end of Ryman League, Division 1 North.

“We drew 2-2 with them last time out and it was a good game and we know they are an attacking side,” said Watson.

“We need to try and capitalise on the way they play. We’ve had two straight wins now in the league and are three unbeaten. It would be great to get another result this weekend.”

Kick-off at Maidstone Road is at 3pm. Hales is unavailable but Kieran McCann returns. Corey Holder, Austin Gacheru and Kalvin Morath-Gibbs will hope to avoid any traffic problems.
