Asda is recalling a range of its mince pies over fears they may contain pieces of plastic.

Three different boxes in its Extra Special range are included in the safety alert which has been issued by the Foods Standards Agency.

The supermarket says it is taking precautionary action because the products 'may contain pieces of plastic which makes them unsafe to eat'.

Extra Special Apple and Pecan Crumble Mince Pies, Extra Special Extra Indulgent Mince Pies and Extra Special Crumble Top Mince Pies are the three types of pie affected.

Each box will contain four mince pies and have best before dates of up to and including December 13 for the Apple and Pecan and Crumble Top and best before dates of December 28 for the Extra Indulgent variety.

Signs have been put in supermarket aisles warning customers who may have bought the pies to not eat them but instead return them to their nearest Asda store for a full refund.

A receipt isn't required in order for someone to claim their money back.
