Victim of A2070 road crash between Hamstreet and Johnson's Corner named as Valerie Munro, 74.

The elderly woman killed in a road crash near Hamstreet has been named.

She was Valerie Munro , 74, of Battery Road, Lydd-on-Sea.

Mrs Munro was publicly identified at the opening of her inquest.

Coroner’s officer Marion Hale said that Mrs Munro was killed when the car she was driving veered off the carriageway and was in collision with a Scania lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

The inquest, at Folkestone Magistrates Court, heard that Mrs Munro died at the scene and her body was later identified by her husband Charles.

She would have turned 75 next Monday.

Ms Hale said that a post mortem examination was carried out by Dr Nicola Chaston, at Ashford’s William Harvey Hospital on last Monday but cause of death was pending analysis.

The crash happened when Mrs Munro was driving on the A2070 towards Ashford on Wednesday, June 24.

Rachel Redman, coroner for Central and South East Kent, adjourned the inquest pending further enquiries.

A date for the follow-up hearing is yet to be fixed.

We reported at the time that the crash happened just before 4.10pm between Hamstreet and the Johnson’s Corner junction.

Mrs Munro had been driving a silver Vauxhall Astra and a passenger in the car, a woman in her 60s, had to be taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The survivor suffered suspected chest and abdominal injuries and was treated at the scene by a doctor from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.

She was then flown to the major trauma centre at St George’s Hospital in London.

Police had also revealed that the crash damaged two other cars in the area, a blue Vauxhall Vectra and white Citroen Berlingo, but the occupants of these were not injured.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538 quoting the reference number AW/DM/106/15.
