Fiona Hazel was killed after being hit by 4x4 in Station Road, New Romney

Investigations are continuing into the death of a young woman who was struck by a 4x4 on a busy road.

The 31-year-old pedestrian, named locally as Fiona Hazel, of Dover, was knocked down by a white Suzuki 4x4 in Station Road, New Romney.

The car was travelling towards the High Street between the railway station and The Marsh Academy.

She was hit at 5.25pm on Saturday, November 1, and taken to King's College Hospital in London where she died of her injuries later that evening.

Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance says its helicopter was sent but its doctor and paramedic travelled with the patient by road to hospital.

Kent Fire and Rescue service were also called but a spokesman said the casualty had already been freed from under the car.

Tributes to Fiona Hazel appeared on Facebook with one woman, Amanda Mott, writing: “It happened outside my house and it wasn’t a big 4x4. Such a sad and tragic event.”

Michelle King wrote: “Such a lovely lady. RIP. Will be missed”.

Police have called for witnesses who may have seen what happened in the moments leading up to the collision.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision or who saw the vehicle or pedestrian before the incident happened.
