Man arrested after car smashes into Cinque Port Arms in New Romney High Street.

Drivers have been warned to avoid New Romney High Street after a car hit the wall of the pub.

The car struck the Cinque Port Arms this lunchtime.

Police say they were called at 1.11pm and say that one man was arrested.

A police spokesman said: “There are no reports of any serious injuries and a man has been arrested in connection to the incident.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that one person needed hospital treatment. It sent out two vehicles a standard ambulance and one from the HART (Hazardous Area Response Team).

Early warnings of the crash were put out via contributors to The Real Romney Marsh Watch Facebook page.

Donna Robertson posted at about 1.45pm today; “If driving along the High Street, be careful. A car has gone into the wall of the Cinque Port Arms.”

Sue Glazier wrote just a few minutes later: “Recovery just arriving on scene. Will let you all know when clear as road could be blocked for safety reasons while vehicle pulled out of building.”

Nicki Davy wrote: “it was passable a short while ago but the front of the pub looked a real mess. Hope it hasn’t done too much structural damage.”

Management at the pub did not wish to comment.
