THIEVES targeted a convenience store in New Romney High Street on Romney Marsh and stole a safe.

It was later recovered nearby in a field in Church Lane. It has not been disclosed what was in the safe.

The break-in happened between 2.30am and 3.30am on Monday. Police would like to speak to anyone who may have information about the burglary or saw the safe in the field. Contact Ashford Police Station on 01233 896181.
