Sewage workers are hoping to reunite a woman with a valuable, inscribed wedding or engagement ring... washed down the plughole or flushed down a sink.

The jewellery was handed into police at Lydd yesterday after it was found during a routine check on the water treatment system at New Romney.

The ring is believed to have been washed away recently, either in the New Romney or Littlestone area.

The couple were originally married in 1996. Stock image

A personal message is inscribed on the inside it, which suggests it has sentimental value to the owner and will be missed.

Anyone who thinks the ring belongs to them should contact PC 12275 Justin Farrow at Lydd police station via 101.
