Firefighters were called to New Street, Sandwich this morning (Wednesday) after a gas leak from an industrial fridge.

The leak had caused smoke to fill up one commercial property, a wine merchants and the residential property next door.

Two appliances attended and located the leak at 9.45am.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "They checked the premises and there were no signs of fire and concluded it was gas leaking from an industrial fridge."

Firefighters left the scene at 10.24am and the road, which had been temporarily closed, was re-opened.
