The head teacher of a Sandwich school has issued a thank-you to Southeastern for putting on extra trains for pupils.

Lee Hunter, head teacher at Sir Roger Manwood’s School, was grateful for the changes which will see two extra trains being put on from Sandwich to Deal and Sandwich to Minster.

He said: “I think someone very high up has had a look at this and tried to figure something out. I would like to say an official thank you to Southeastern and the parents are also really thankful as well.”

This comes after Southeastern announced changes to the timetable which did not give pupils enough time to catch the train home after the school day ends.

Both Sir Roger Manwood’s and Sandwich Technology School were concerned this would mean changing the times of their school day in order to avoid both sets of pupils flooding the station at the same time.

The extra trains will hopefully ensure pupils will have enough time between the end of the school day and the train leaving the platform.

Benjamin Ward, public affairs executive for Southeastern said: “Following feedback we received from schools in the Sandwich area and from the parents of pupils, we have reviewed the timetable. As such we will be introducing two additional services. The first service will arrive at Sandwich at 15:39 and will call at Deal and Dover. The second train will arrive in Sandwich at 15:52 and will call at Minster and Ramsgate. The trains will initially be run for a trial period and we will review the timetable again, with a view to making this a more permanent fixture.”

The trial service starts on Monday, January 12.
