Residents are invited to attend a public exhibition to find out more about New Line Networks’ (NLN) proposed 1,000ft mast in Richborough.

Last month, NLN approached Dover District Council for a scoping opinion, the first step of a planning application, for a 305m tower at Kings End Farm to provide better communication links between the UK and Europe.

The company is now hosting a series of exhibitions to further explain its plans to members of the public, with the first event at Sandwich Guildhall from 4pm until 8pm today.

The mast would be on land behind the former Richborough Power Station

The second is from 10am until 4pm tomorrow, also at Sandwich Guildhall.

For those who can’t make the Sandwich events, the same exhibition will be at Minster Village Hall from 4pm until 8pm on Wednesday, March 23, at Cliffsend Village Hall from 2pm until 6pm on Thursday, March 31 and at Ash Village Hall from 2pm until 6pm from Monday, April 4.

NLN, which builds and operates point-to-point wireless networks between financial trading centres around the world, has said it is committed to ensuring the Sandwich community is fully informed regarding the details of its proposal and the related benefits, and is encouraging members to provide feedback.

Residents can expect to learn more about the mast’s differentiation compared to other mast proposals including Vigilant Global’s 324m mast, which would be higher than Europe’s tallest building the Shard in London at 309m.

The safety of the mast and its technology will also be explained, as well as NLN’s plans to protect the potential reopening of Manston airport.

On behalf of NLN, Sean McNamara, said: “NLN is committed to serving the communities in which we operate, and incorporating feedback from the local community is a critical part of our planning process.

“We have already been in discussions with a range of local stakeholders and we look forward to continued engagement to help inform the development of a planning application that will best fit the needs of the community.”

After the exhibitions, NLN intends to submit a planning application to Dover District Council in the spring of 2016.

If approved, the goal is to start construction later in 2016 and complete the mast in the first half of 2017.
