Man cut free by firefighters after crash on Richborough Way near Sandwich

A man in his 50s has been cut free by firefighters after his car crashed into a ditch near Sandwich.

The vehicle ended up in a ditch off Richborough Way on the A256 this morning.

Firefighters were called at 9.16am and used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof of the car so they could gain access to the man who was trapped.

Working alongside paramedics, the crews assessed the man who was removed before being placed in the care of SECAmb.

Crews then made the scene safe and the two appliances left by 10.08am.

Kent Police as well as paramedics were also on the scene.

Martin Very, Kent Police press spokesman said: "At 8.36am, police were called to the report of a car that had left the carriageway of the A256 Richborough Way between Sandwich and Ramsgate.

"Some non-life threatening injuries to the driver were reported.

"Officers attended the scene as did South East Coast Ambulance Service who took the driver to hospital for treatment."

The man was taken to William Harvey hospital in Ashford with a potential collar bone injury.

Rich Airey, press spokesman for SECAmb said: "The vehicle had reportedly left the road and down an embankment.

"There were no obvious injuries but potentially had a collar bone injury and was immobilised for other potential injuries."
