Students at Sir Roger Manwood’s School in Sandwich have proved they have a head for figures.

They are celebrating winning the National Team Maths Challenge run by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust.

Andrew Carlotti and Alex Dixon, from Year 8, and Connor Gower and Damon Sutton, from Year 9, faced 64 teams from across the country in a series of rounds of challenging maths questions.

Head teacher Christopher Morgan said: “Sir Roger Manwood’s has recently been designated a high-performing specialist school for modern languages and as a result was granted the second specialism of maths and computing.

“This victory is therefore very timely and a great boost to the development of our new specialism.”

Head of maths Martin Neeve said: “The maths department has a long tradition of fostering the particularly gifted, offering challenging extension work and encouraging students to explore their potential.

“Exciting times lie ahead for these students and other gifted mathematicians in the school.”
