A Sevenoaks has been made to surrender more than £7,000 of ill-gotten gains under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Officers seized the cash from 38-year-old Michael Barnes when he was arrested in June last year on suspicion of possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to supply.

He admitted the lesser offence of possession in August and was jailed at Maidstone Crown Court for 28 days.

Barnes, formerly of Greatness Lane, appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates Court last Wednesday where magistrates ruled he should forfeit £7,126.

He was also ordered to pay £1,250 in costs.

Det Sgt Jon Saxby, from Kent Police’s Serious Economic Crime Unit, said: "This should send a message to offenders that once they have been sentenced we will continue to investigate any financial gain they have made from their activities.

"We will use the legislation that is available to seize any cash or property that we can prove they have obtained through criminal behaviour.

"Crime shouldn’t pay."
