TWO stone obelisks have been stolen from the entrance to a mausoleum at Greatness Cemetery in Sevenoaks.

The theft is believed to have happened overnight on Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17.

The obelisks are light coloured Portland stone, approximately 4ft high with ball finials. They would be very heavy to move and a vehicle would be needed to take them away.

Det Con Helen King said: "It is very sad that someone has chosen to steal these things which are of historical interest and an integral part of the mausoleum.

"If anyone saw a vehicle in suspicious circumstances that night or perhaps has some idea of where these items have gone I would urge them to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The mausoleum is dedicated to Esme Kraftmeier who died, aged 12, and dates from around 1908. It is now a listed building.
