Fire crews were helped by the Ministry of Defence as they exploded 120 grenades found in a garden.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service worked alongside the MoD's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team after they were called following the discovery of Second World War phosphorous grenades in the back garden of a property in Woodside Road in Sevenoaks.

The devices were safely detonated in a special trench dug in a field opposite the home.

People living nearby were told to keep their doors and windows closed in preparation for the blast.

The controlled explosion resulted in "a large but managed fire", which was allowed to burn out quickly.

Firefighters were on stand-by to support their MoD colleagues during the detonation.

Crews made the scene safe.
