A Kent council will collected any unwanted, real Christmas tree for free throughout January.

Sevenoaks District Council is offering the free service to residents with trees with a trunk of up to 90mm/3.6 inches in diameter.

They will be collected along with the garden waste collection service until Friday, January 29.

Residents must leave the tree by the boundary of their home by 7am on the day the service is due to visit.

All the trees collected are recycled into environmentally friendly compost and for this reason the council cannot collect trees which are decorated or in pots or stands.

Sevenoaks District Council’s waste and recycling portfolio holder, Cllr Matthew Dickins, said: “By offering this service the Council is making it much easier for residents to dispose of their tree in a convenient and environmentally friendly manner and so I would encourage as many people to use this service as possible.”

Residents can check when the collection service is due to visit their road by clicking here.
