Kent's own Emma Corrin has won a Golden Globe.

The Sevenoaks actress won the award for best actress in a TV drama for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix's The Crown.

She beat fellow Crown star Olivia Coleman, as well as Killing Eve's Jodie Comer, Laura Linney and Sarah Paulson.

Ms Corrin, who was born in Tunbridge Wells, said that it was "a real honour to be named amongst a group of such talented and inspirational women".

Earlier today the actress posted to Instagram expressing her gratitude.

Previously, a video uploaded on her Instagram story – recorded by someone else – showed the young actress' joyous reaction to being nominated.

In a subsequent post, she said: "Working on The Crown was the most magical experience, in no small part thanks to the incredible cast and crew that supported and help guide me through."

The 25-year-old was awarded for her portrayal of a young and nervous Lady Di as she meets Prince Charles and faces the trials of marrying into the royal family.

She previously said she is “overjoyed, over the moon and incredibly honoured” to have been cast in the role of Diana and felt the tension on the set when she emerged for filming wearing a replica of the infamous wedding dress worn by the Princess in July 1981 for the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral.
