Two men have been arrested after a Sevenoaks pensioner was nearly conned out of their savings.
Police were called out to a bank in the High Street on April 1 after a pensioner tried withdraw large sums of money.
Enquiries revealed the man had been offered renovations to his home after a cold caller knocked on his door.
Works were carried out, but police are now investigating if the pensioner was exploited into paying over-the-odds.
On Wednesday a 27-year-old man from Edenbridge and another 27-year-old of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
Both have been bailed pending further enquiries until June 28.
Advice to deter rogue traders:
- Never deal with doorsteps callers. If you have any doubts at all, tell them you need to check with a neighbour or family member and close the door.
- Call the police if you think they are acting suspiciously.
- Ask for quotes in writing and ring more than three traders to get an average price for the job so you know what is reasonable.
- Research `check-a-trade¿ websites or business directories to confirm the trader's ID.
- If you still have concerns contact the police or Trading Standards
