Plans have been submitted for a £900,000 refurbishment to a Kent station.

Sevenoaks Town Council put forward anapplication for new public toilets, café and community meeting rooms for the Bat and Ball Station.

An application for funding for the refurbishment has been made to the Heritage Lottery Fund with a decision expected next month.

The town council also wants to provide better access to platform adjacent to the community centre, to make the station easier to use for disabled people and those with pushchairs.

Cllr Roderick Hogarth, chairman of community infrastructure committee, stated: “I believe this is just one example of the Town Council’s commitment to the regeneration of the Bat and Ball area.

"The public have been telling us for some time that they have concerns about the current station facility and there is no reason why these should not be up to a Sevenoaks standard.

"The innovative and sustainable proposal put forward by the town council can only be of benefit to local residents and visitors.”
