Commuters were left stunned this morning when they were told their trains would be delayed - by llamas!

Services between Hildenborough and Sevenoaks were held up following the sighting just after 8.30am.

But some Twitter fans took to the social media network to have fun at the animals' expense.

Graham Dudley said: "Must be quite al-llama-ing."

A Twitter account named CranbrookGNIM said: "Maybe Southeastern are thinking of introducing pushmi pullyu as an alternative service" - referring to the llama-like two-headed animal in the film Dr Doolittle.

And @OddlyACTIVE had this thought on the proceedings:

A Southeastern spokesman said six to eight of the animals were seen on the line near Hildenborough.

The spokesman said: "We're not sure how they got there or where they were going, but we can assume they weren’t trying to catch the train.

"As a safety measure we slowed trains running through the route and there have been minor delays as a result.

"Our services are now back running as normal and the llamas haven’t been seen since 8.36am."
