It's believed five officers entered a lower basement flat in Marine Parade, Sheerness at around 2.30pm, following a stand-off lasting several hours.

It's said an ambulance arrived 10 minutes later and paramedics entered.

Police were called at 10.45am today.

Officers cordoned off between Alexandra Road and Invicta Road and people were being moved on from the Neptune Terrace area.

There were not thought to be any other people inside the house.

Stacie Wiltshire, 19, lives a few doors away from the house in Marine Parade.

She said: "I looked out of the window because I thought I heard someone banging on the front door and there were all these police outside.

"It was a bit of a shock and to see the guns was a bit scary.

"It makes you dubious - wondering what's going on so close to home."
