Armed police called to house in Sheerness, Sheppey, near Richmond Primary School

An armed siege is under way on the Isle of Sheppey this evening.

Firearms officers are at the scene and it is understood police have cordoned off part of a road in Sheerness.

They were called to Jefferson Road at 5pm.

A woman has left the address and is said to be safe and well.

Police say a man remains in the house.

A spokesman said: "We have been called to a report of a disturbance at a private residential address in Jefferson Road, Sheerness.

"Officers supported by armed patrols are currently in attendance and liaising with a man believed to be alone inside the property.

"A woman left the address prior to police attendance and is safe and well."

He said both parties involved are known to one another and added: "Enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing."

It is near Richmond Primary School.
