Charlotte Berrill was so eager to enter the world that she was born in less than 40 minutesin the back of an ambulance.

Mum Jo and husband Lee were being bluelighted from their home in Cecil Avenue, Sheerness, to Medway Maritime Hospital when Jo felt the need to push. Ambulance driver Faye Buesden pulled over close to McDonald’s in Bobbing while paramedic Michael Cook helped deliver the baby safely.

Charlotte - who was born at 3.38am on October 7 - was three days early and weighed 6lbs 12oz. She is the couple’s fourth child - all of which are girls.

Joanne said: "My waters had gone and my contractions started at 3am so we called the delivery suite at the hospital - but because my contractions were quite close together they told me to call 999 and ask for an ambulance.

"They arrived very quickly but within minutes of leaving the house I’d given birth to Charlotte in the back of the ambulance. "It was very shocking to have her in just 38 minutes."

Paramedic Michael Cook was just glad the birth went smoothly. He said: "It was a very quick delivery. As Faye pulled over the baby was virtually delivered by then.

"Dad was helping out by getting towels to dry the baby as we have a delivery pack on board. The baby was a bit slow to cry but once she did she was OK."
