Around 100 people gathered on the beach to say happy birthday to a severely disabled girl who died last month.

Ezmae Catley from Minster would have turned five on Thursday, February 2, so parents Claire Morrish and David Catley organised a release of pink balloons to mark the occasion.

She suffered with multiple serious conditions including dystonia, epilepsy and an undiagnosed genetic condition.

Despite strong winds, a crowd gathered outside The Playa on The Leas in Minster to let go of their balloons, many with messages for Ezmae written on them.

Claire, who lives in Minster Road, said: “It’s been a month since Ezmae passed and the generosity and support from everyone is just amazing.

“If it wasn’t for everyone being there and the constant support, we wouldn’t be coping as well as we are.

“We had people all over the place, who couldn’t be in Minster, releasing balloons and sending us pictures and videos – thank you.”
