A bomb has been detonated on a Kent beach, sending a 20m plume of water into the sky.

The device was exploded by Royal Navy disposal experts after being discovered on Minster Leas seafront.

A member of the public reported the discovery yesterday.

Sheppey Coastguard rescue officers were sent to the scene. They took photos of the shell and marked it with an orange buoy in preparation for low tide this morning.

They also alerted the Royal Navy's explosive ordnance department in Portsmouth, which sent a team to Minster Leas at 10am this morning.
