Unexploded shell made safe at Queenborough, Sheppey

Bomb experts were called in after an unexploded wartime shell was discovered on the Isle of Sheppey.

Officers from the Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal team were called to Thomsett Way, Queenborough, shortly before 5pm yesterday (Tuesday).

Police were also called to the site, where the £50 million Aldi regional distribution centre is being built.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and the area was cordoned off as a precaution.

"An army bomb disposal team was called and a controlled detonation was carried out on the device."
