He was known to many Islanders as the goalie for Crown Hearts Football Club which was founded in 1966.

Team founder Jimmy Moore said: “I knew Paddy from the Crown days when we were all Mods together and would visit Margate, Bognor Regis and Torquay on our scooters.

“Paddy was the Crown Hearts first and only goalkeeper from 1966 to 1972 and also played for Queenborough Club.

“He was always jovial and joined in with everything which was going on.

"He will be sadly missed by those who knew him.”

Mr Brown leaves a widow, Rose.

His family were too upset to talk this week.
