Members of the Sheppey St John Ambulance Band have been given a role in The Lord Mayor’s Show 2013.

More than 40 musicians from the group will be taking part in the parade to welcome the newly appointed Lord Mayor of London on Saturday, November 9.

This year a woman, Fiona Woolf, has been elected for only the second time in 800 years.

It is the fifth time the Island’s band has taken part in the procession, which is more than three-and-a-half miles long and fills the whole space between Bank and Aldwych.

This year they will be leading the St John contingent.

Bandmaster Dean Faulkner said: “We are really looking forward to it and are working hard towards it.

“The hours of work and rehearsal time that each member has put in is incredible as everyone wants to ensure St John Ambulance and the Island are well represented.

“We have been allocated performance number 42 in the parade, so we are quite close to the front.

"If you’re attending this fantastic show make sure you give us a cheer as we pass you by or watch us on the television.”
