Car-lovers have paid tribute to Sittingbourne cyclist and Liverpool fan Cavan Scott by releasing red balloons at a rally.

Many packed the car park of Neats Court retail park at Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppey last night (Saturday) to pay their respects to the 19-year-old who died after being hit by a car in Teynham on bank holiday Monday.

His mother Di was at the event organised by the Dirtee South and Dirtee South Sheppey car clubs and posted a message of thanks on Facebook page afterwards.

She aid: "Honestly, thank you so so much from all our family. I really can't thank you enough, the organisers at Dirtee South and all the drivers, the motorbikes, just everyone for turning up for our Cavan.

"I was absolutely gobsmacked and overwhelmed.

"It truly was amazing. You really all did Cavan proud. He would of absolutely loved this.

"You made us smile so much, too, today. Thank you to everyone who donated, we really appreciate this. The donations will be added to Cavan's go fund me page."

She added: "Thank you to Dirtee South for the items, too. It was an amazing night. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts."

Ricky Bain, who runs Dirtee South Sheppey, said: "There were loads of people there to say goodbye. We played a Liverpool song for Cavan and released red balloons for him." Dirtee South, which holds monthly meets across the county, is run by Timmi 'Gee' Goodwin. He said: "It was a amazing night. I'd like to thank everyone for coming and joining in."

Cavan died in the early hours of Monday after his his green Barracuda bicycle was in collision with a black VW Polo in Lower Road, Teynham.

His aunt Rachael Godfrey has created a crowd-funding page on behalf of his family to help cover funeral expenses.

She said: "Cavan was a caring, handsome, loving, selfless, funny handsome 19-year-old boy with his whole life ahead of him. He loved life and had just started a new job. He was excited for all the plans he had made for the future."

Cavan leaves a younger brother and sister.

Five people have been arrested following the crash. An 18-year-old man from Faversham, a 19-year-old man from Sheerness and a 20-year-old woman from Chatham were taken into custody on the same day.

The 20-year-old woman and 18-year-old man were bailed until the end of May. The 19-year-old from Sheppey remains in custody, according to police.

Officers made two further arrests on Wednesday, a 17-year-old girl from Canterbury and a 20-year-old man from Sheerness.
