Youngsters were rewarded for dreaming-up festive creations fit for a mayor.

Five pupils travelled to Swale council’s Sittingbourne HQ in East Street to receive book vouchers and certificates.

The children, from Kemsley and Queenborough primary schools, were winners in a competition to create a Christmas card.

The chosen designs will appear on the front cover of this year’s Mayoral Civic card.

Five-year-old Erin Thomas, a Year 1 pupil at Queenborough, was among the successful quintet.

Her picture of a mummy and baby reindeer was selected by the council’s director of regeneration, Pete Raine.

Vida Montrimaite, head of art at the Edward Road school, said: “Mr Raine was impressed that the card was designed by someone only five years old.

“It’s a very good piece of work and very cute.”

The children will also be given their own copies of the card to send to family and friends.
