Firefighters have saved a pregnant cow after it fell into a watery ditch.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service's specialist animal rescue team from Faversham and its water safety crew used a rope to rescue the 850kg animal.

It had fallen in a water-filled ditch at Holm Place Farm in Minster on the Isle of Sheppey.

It took at least nine firefighters about three hours to hoist the animal up from the ditch after being called at 7.56am today.

Sheppey's watch manager said: "The water levels have dropped so much it looks like the cows have had to venture down the bank to get water."
