The Island-bound side of the Sheppey Crossing on the A249 had to be shut today.

A car broke down just after the Lower Road turn-off at 11.51am.

Cars were diverted via the Kingsferry Bridge but it reopened at 12.42pm.

Police put in a rolling road block to ensure public safety.
