Scores of people have paid tribute to a popular Islander who died in an accident at a lake in West Sussex.

Shane Gray, from Leysdown, died at Lakeside Holiday Park near Chichester on Wednesday.

The former Minster College pupil was believed to have been working at the park.

Paying tribute, Shane's family said: "We don't know really where to start.

"The pain we are all feeling right now is something unexplainable. All we can say is, we've lost a piece of us that can never be replaced, one of the most important men in our lives and someone that made us more proud than anybody."

They added: "Shane lost his life in a horrible accident, that had no reason and needs to be explained.

"Our world has been turned upside down.

"All we can say is that Shane was loved by so many."

West Sussex Police were called at 1.38pm on Wednesday after being alerted by paramedics.

The spokesman added: "There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner's officer has been informed."

West Sussex Coroner's Office said an inquest would open next week before a full hearing at a later date.
