Fire at Sheerness cafe

FIRE fighters were called to Scoffs cafe in Sheerness High Street this morning (Thursday)after reports of a deep fat fryer alight.

Two pumps were sent to the cafe at 8.45am. The owner managed to get out of the building before fire fighters arrived.

They were still at the scene ventilating the building just after 9.30am.

It was thought there were people in the flat above but it was found to be empty.

No-one was injured in the fire.

The High Street was blocked to traffic while crews dealt with the blaze.

Witnesses reported flames rising from the back of the cafe and smoke billowing from the front.

The building was severly smoke damaged in the fire.
