Flats evacuated as firefighters tackle blaze

THREE fire engines were called to a blaze in the top floor of a block of flats in Sheerness today.

The fire, at Jacob's House in Royal Road, was believed to have been started by a miniature cooker left on during the day and left the kitchen with smoke damage.

Crews used an internal water pipe to pump water to the fifth floor of the building. They forced their way into the empty flat and extinguished the fire within 10 mintues.

The building had to be evacuated but nobody was hurt.
