Neighbours are "absolutely furious" about proposals for 72 homes on fields in Minster.

Malro Homes wants to build the estate on currently empty plots spread between Southsea Avenue, Scarborough Drive, Augustine Road, Sexburga Drive and The Broadway near the Abbey Hotel.

There would be 39 four-bedroom properties, 33 three-bedroom houses, as well as parking spaces and garages on fields, on a site spanning 6.3 acres.

People living nearby have raised concerns about the development's impact on traffic and wildlife and the "detrimental effect" on views from their homes.

A report submitted in support of the application said: “Swale Borough Council, the substantial owners of the land, acknowledges the site is within an established built up area, within settlement confines, and that it has not been designated for any other use.

"It has promoted the disposal of the asset on the positive assumption that planning consent for its residential development will accrue.”

Ronald LeCount, of The Broadway, said: “I’m really quite upset there are lots of questions left unanswered.

“The access to Augustine Road would be dangerous because it is a blind bend to a 40mph road and cars can come round the corner very quickly.

Neighbours have reacted angrily to the plans

“I’m absolutely furious about the lack of communication, lack of information and how this has been done quietly.

“I’ve lived here for four years and if it goes through and is given permission, I’d consider moving.”

Richard Roberts, of Minster Drive, strongly objects, saying many green spaces are disappearing.

“I live very close by and these properties will have a detrimental affect to the views from my home," he said.

"Wildlife will also be affected.”

There are also concerns about the amenities in the area such as doctors and dentists.

Another resident, Amanda Jackson, said: “My major concern is the main route out of Augustine Road.

"Sometimes getting out of my drive onto the main road is a task in itself, the extra traffic generation is going to make getting out of my drive almost impossible.

Swale council has been passed the plans for consideration.
