A record number of fundraisers are expected to take part in the Paul Trigwell Island Run today.

It will be the eighth run in memory of the head teacher of St George’s Middle School, who died in 2006.

More than 550 people have already registered to take part this time, which organisers say is a record.

People can also sign up on the day.

There are options for people of all abilities – there will be a two-mile run, a 10-mile run, a 10-mile walk and a 10-mile relay – and the theme this year is cartoons.

It is hoped the fundraiser will boost the total raised by the Paul Trigwell Memorial Fund to £100,000.

It was set up to benefit Sheppey children.
