Discussions are taking place which could lead to the rolling mill side of the steelworks reopening.

However, MP Gordon Henderson says it is a very slim chance, as there are still numerous problems to overcome.

The news comes after rumours began circulating that the mill was going to reopen, but Mr Henderson said he was not aware of any plans to restart actual steel-making.

Thamesteel, in Brielle Way, Sheerness, closed in January 2012 and 350 staff were made redundant without receiving their month’s wages.

Mr Henderson said there were still issues between landowner Peel Holdings and plant owner the Al-Tuwairqi Group (ATG).

He says he is in regular contact with both companies and he is hoping to meet senior ATG managers next week.
