The warm weather ensured there was a good turn out at a charity drive spearheaded by The Sheppey Zulus.

Hundreds of people attended the fun day which was held at Sheerness Co-op Club in St George’s Avenue, Sheerness, on Saturday.

Attractions included an inflatable bungee run, a climbing wall, bouncy castle, fairground rides and a coconut shy as well as traditional side shows and stalls selling crafts, clothes and toys.

There was also readings by a clairvoyant, pony rides courtesy of Danley Farm in Minster and a beat the goalie competition.

In the evening there was a disco, auction and grand draw with a first prize of £200 in cash.

The fundraiser was the first of its kind to be organised by the Zulus. The group has raised thousands of pounds for charity over many decades.

But the money is usually collected by them attending events organised by other groups and organisations, and encouraging people to drop their loose change into their collection buckets.

It is not yet known how much was raised on the day but all monies will be donated to causes chosen by the group.

Secretary Ian Cruickshanks organised the event along with chairman Mark Lea, who is also known as Mini.

Mr Cruickshanks, 56, of Linden Drive, Sheerness, said: “We had a good turn out thanks to the weather but it was too hot so many people ended up going inside.

“It wasn’t mega busy but it was constant. The Zulus would like to thank everyone who attended and all the businesses that donated prizes.”
