A cyclist who suffered a nasty injury is appealing to others to heed warnings so they don’t come a cropper as well.

Ian Goodwin, of Marine Parade, Sheerness, was riding his push bike along Brielle Way when its wheel got caught in the train track, near West Street, Blue Town.

We reported in April how work to realign the disused lines, which run from the dockyard into the former Thamesteel site, was taking place after another cyclist fell, although they were not injured.

Coastguard officer Mr Goodwin ended up with a nasty head injury after hitting the road when his bike went over last month.

He took himself to Sheppey Community Hospital in Minster where the cuts were glued back together.

He says there are clearly warning signs but he wanted to show what happened to him so other people would be careful.

The 55-year-old said: “My bike is damaged and I was covered in bruises.

“The problem is the line almost goes parallel to your bike wheel and certain tyre sizes can get caught inside the track.

“There’s a big sign saying ‘cyclists dismount’ but people need to heed that warning or they will end up just like me.”
