A man was taken to hospital with what is believed to be “life-changing” injuries to his face after he was involved in a fight outside a Sheppey nightclub.

Ten police cars, two ambulances and two paramedic cars rushed to the eastern end of the Island in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Leysdown Road was closed outside Merlin's about 1am to 3.30am as teams of officers searched the area with torches.

One eyewitness said: “I counted 10 police cars and two ambulances outside Merlin’s and there was police tape across the road with police in rows searching the area using torches.

“I could see a paramedic attending to one lad with a big gash on his head on the side of the road.

"It looked as if there had been a mass fight. I was told an elderly chap also had his jaw broken in two places and another had suffered life-changing injuries to his face.”

A police spokesman said today: “We were called to reports of two men being assaulted in Leysdown Road at 1.30am.

"At present no arrests have been made. Officers are conducting inquiries.”
