Motorists are being reminded of changes to a major Island route.

From tomorrow (Thursday) until October 31, drivers will be stopped from turning right at the bottom of Barton Hill Drive into Lower Road.

They will have to turn left and use the Thistle Hill roundabout to come back around.

Cars will also be prevented from turning right from Lower Road into Barton Hill.

A barrier will be used to enforce this. Added to these measures, the traffic lights will be re-phased and it is hoped 300 more cars an hour will be allowed through.

This is the second Kent Highways’ plan to tackle the daily congestion problems that have occurred there.

The previous scheme on August 12 was scrapped on the same day it was introduced.

There is a new £1.8 million roundabout being planned for the site.
