A lifeboat crew came to the rescue of a couple stranded on a yacht in the the Medway Estuary.

The head sail of the 10-metre long craft called Chodo had jammed leaving one man and one woman unable to get back to land.

The incident just after 2.20pm yesterday happened off Dead Man’s Island, with the pair managing to motor back to Queenborough Harbour with the help of the inshore lifeboat.

The lifeboat, known as Buster, is a new arrival at Sheerness RNLI station having only been delivered on Thursday.

Helmsman Clive Hancock said: "Buster performed perfectly and will no doubt be as good a workhorse as ‘Eleanor’ has been over the last ten years."
