Queen's Road, Minster, closed after lorry crash

Buses and cars had to be diverted this morning after a lorry crashed into a lamppost.

The accident happened in Queens Road, Minster, on the Isle of Sheppey near the village's Co-op store.

Early reports said a lorry had hit a lamppost leaving live power cables in the road.

The road was closed causing chaos as mums and dads were trying to take children to St George's CE Primary School.

The accident happened in the middle of the school run.

A police spokesman said police were called at 8.24am.

He said at 10am: "Officers are still at the scene. No injuries have been reported.

"Power cables connected to the lamppost are reported to have fallen into the road. A road closure is in place."

Bus company Arriva has had to divert buses into Minster High Street.

A message on its Facebook page said the 362 Rushenden to Sheerness and Leysdown service had been affected.

It said: "Due to a lorry knocking over a lamppost, Queens Road, Minster on Sea (Sheppey) is currently closed. 362 buses are diverting via Minster High Street (360 route).

"Stops on Minster Broadway, Wards Hill, Queens Road and Baldwin Road are unable to be served. Apologies."
