A 20-year-old man has been arrested after another man was stabbed in a Kent town in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place at around 3am in Victoria Street, Sheerness, following an argument between the two men.

The 30-year-old victim, who is from the town, suffered a stab wound to the chest and is said to be in a stable condition in Medway Maritime Hospital at Gillingham.

Ch Insp Mark Chambers said: "Luckily this man's injuries weren't life-threatening. The incident was isolated and we believe the two men may have been known to each other.

"However, it serves as a reminder that weapons lead to serious consequences."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
