A man is being treated in hospital after being knocked over in a suspected hit-and-run.

Ambulance crews were called to St Helens Road, Sheerness, near the junction of High Street, at 6.55pm yesterday. Police attended about 10 minutes later.

The pedestrian, who is believed to be in his 40s, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

It is understood the driver left the scene after the collision, although police are yet to confirm this.

There is also speculation that some motorists drove around the injured man as he lay in the street.
