A man seen acting suspiciously around a primary school has been spoken to by police but officers have denied rumours a bag of indecent images of children was found in a playing field.

In a separate incident, police also received reports of a man camping in the grounds of the Isle of Sheppey Academy’s west site in Sheerness.

Officers found an empty tent but there were no signs anyone had been living in it.

A man was spoken to about the concerns which had been raised after police received reports of a man driving a van and acting suspiciously around a primary school in Sheerness.

A police spokesman said they will be working closely with the school to address any further worries they or parents have.

It comes after parents of children at Richmond Primary were sent messages from the school warning them there had been reports of a man watching children in local alleyways.

Det Sgt Neil Kimber, from Sheerness police station, said: “We would like to reassure children, parents and staff at the schools that despite rumours to the contrary these two incidents are totally unrelated.

“However both are being fully investigated, although at the moment there is no evidence to substantiate either.

“There have also been claims that we have found images of children in a bag in the playing field. There is absolutely no truth in this.

“We do take all reports of suspicious behaviour, especially in the vicinity of children, extremely seriously.”
