Sheerness man cautioned after armed police shut off The Broadway, Minster

A man spotted with a sword who sparked a huge police response involving armed officers and a helicopter has been cautioned.

Shocked onlookers witnessed armed police shut off The Broadway in Minster, Sheppey, on Monday morning.

They had been called to Berridge Road, Sheerness, at 10am after a man was spotted with a sword.

Marked and unmarked police cars were seen surrounding a bus stop on The Broadway not long after.

The police helicopter was also seen hovering over Sheerness and Minster and armed officers shut the road near Wards Hill Road while they made the arrest.

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and the man was arrested.

"A weapon was also seized.”

Police have confirmed a 27-year-old man, from Sheerness, had been cautioned for possessing an offensive weapon.

He had been issued with the caution at 11pm on Monday, having met the necessary criteria.
