Minster have staged their first ever show and coach Gary Felwell has described the evening as a huge success.

Ten bouts took place at Merlins and four of the fighters came from the Minster club, which was formed less than a year ago.

Fifteen-year-old Dan Huntley won his fight but three others were beaten in close fought contests in front of a large crowd.

Felwell’s fighters were competing against clubs such as St Mary’s (Chatham) and Faversham.

"It was a fantastic night and was totally packed," said Felwell.

"We raised a lot of money for the club and I would like to thank Lee and Tommy from Merlins and also St Mary’s and Faversham boxing clubs as we wouldn’t have been able to do the show without them.

"We showed we can hold our own against a club like St Mary’s, who I would regard as the top club in Kent and I’m over the moon."

Huntley scored a unanimous points victory over an opponent from Horsham in his first ever bout on Friday of last week.

Also on the bill were the Reirdan brothers Nayan and Jayan.

Nayan, 14, lost on a unanimous decision in his first showing against a fighter from the St Mary’s stable.

Older brother Jayan, 17, was competing in his first senior bout and a point deduction for pushing didn’t help his cause as he lost on a majority verdict.

Will Slater, 18, was making his first appearance for two years and was beaten in a close fought contest against an opponent from Basingstoke.

Slater and Jayan Reirdan will be competing in the senior novices at the start of November.
